Have you ever been using your IPTV set-top box, or were you in the middle of setting it up when you receive a random message saying that your device is blocked? This can be very irritating, preventing you from enjoying your IPTV content. Luckily, we have some tips on how to handle STB blocks for IPTV and how to unblock them.
Contact Your IPTV Provider
While you probably have already considered this tip, it should be seen as mandatory to message or call your IPTV provider before trying out any other recommendations. While it isn’t always the case, there is a chance they will know what the problem is and be able to help you out with it promptly.

If your interaction with them doesn’t go well and you still don’t know how to unblock STB on IPTV, consider the following pieces of advice:

1. Change the Portal or the m3u Playlist
Sometimes, STB devices get blocked because the portal or m3u playlist is detected as invalid. This is one of the tips your provider may give you should you contact them. One possible fix to the STB block is to go into the settings of your STB device and change the portal or m3u playlist.

Often, someone receives the STB blocked message because their portal URL has been changed or updated on their subscription account but not the actual set-top box. That means you have to manually change the portal or m3u URL and update the device itself.

You can find your portal URL by logging into the account of the provider you use, or it can also be given to you by calling your provider. Once you have the new portal URL, you will have to go into the main settings or configuration of your STB.

Depending on the brand you use, it may go by a slightly different name. Under the System Settings menu, you should find an option titled Portals. Click on it, and you will see a few windows to type in the Portal name and the Portal URL. Input the URL and name there (you can give whatever name you want, preferably the name of the IPTV provider itself).

2. Acquire a Virtual MAC
Sometimes when activating an STB for the first time, it cannot become active until your provider acquires the device’s virtual MAC. The virtual MAC is similar to an ID or address for your STB device. You can find it by going into your STB’s system settings and then looking at the device info. It will be the same page that will also display the name of the device’s model, the software ID, and other similar information.

Once you’ve found the virtual MAC address, you will need to give this to your IPTV provider. Depending on the provider, you can do this either online or through the phone.
3. Renew your IPTV Subscription
Sometimes the simple reason why your STB has been blocked is that your IPTV subscription has expired without you even knowing. The moment your subscription runs out, the relevant information that allows your STB to stay unblocked and connected, such as the portal URL, becomes old and invalid. This means acquiring a new portal URL by renewing your subscription or getting a new one.

Call your provider or check your account online to see if your subscription is still active. If it is inactive, so will the portal URL or m3u playlist, resulting in a blocked STB.
